Scrabble Mania

I have been a bit preoccupied making things out of Scrabble tiles. I thought that my crafting days were over. I had just lost interest. But I've had fun with these. I have a few more in the works, but they are not done yet. I'll update with pictures when I finish them.

My favorite is this years advent calendar. I found a Christmas saying that had 24 letters. I added the star to make it 25. I realized belatedly that I should have taken pictures of the process, but it is too late now. I mapped out my "tree" and drilled holes in the scrabble board where the brads would go. I drilled a hole in each of the scrabble tiles and threaded string through it. I poked the ends of the string through the holes in the board and secured them with tape on the back. I put the brad in the hole next and bent the ends over on the back of the board. Once all the tiles were in place, I put the numbers on the back side. I just printed them out on address labels and cut them out with a circle punch. I glued the 3 tiles on the bottom with super glue. After everything on the front was positioned the way I wanted it, I turned it over and used super glue on the string ends to permanently secure them in place. I secured the whole thing by using super glue to attach another scrabble board going the opposite direction on to the back. I used this option, because I have several boards. You could however use heavy cardboard, chipboard or even just paint sticks along the fold of the scrabble board. I'm quite pleased with the results. One scrabble game provides all the necessary letters for this project. My tiles and board are old, so I went for the antique look. If I made it with a newer game, I would use more colorful brads.

I've used scrabble tiles to decorate around the house. I like the ones on my bookshelf. I made up several saying and glued them onto the racks. Now they label my selves.

I have used super glue to put magnets on the back of scrabble tiles to use on my refrigerator. As I find more used scrabble games, I will make more of these. The kids (including Monte) like to rearrange them to spell different things.
I have a few more scrabble projects I am working on. Including a "family tree" and some necklace charms. I am also working on game related Christmas ornaments for this year. I'll post pictures when I get them finished.

a lady in my ward had a board with everyone in her family, in-laws grandkids. it's pretty cool.

I'm working on a recipe book for my kids. As I make a recipe, I type it up and take a picture. My goal is to give a book to each of my kids when they leave home. I decided to share our favorites on my new food blog www.smittenwithmykitchen.blogspot.com . I hope you enjoy them too.
